Three new projects awarded in the Porto metropolitan area.
Reformulation of the Paço de Sousa Wastewater Treatment Plant discharge.
This project involves changing the wastewater treatment plant's discharge in order to minimise the visual impact on the river. The solution for modifying the discharge was designed with the aim of
submerge the treated effluent in the river and discharge it as parallel as possible to the watercourse, thus reducing the formation of foam. An important aspect to emphasise is that, due to the maximum flood level, all the works can only be carried out during the dry season. A new box will be built, located between the existing box and the discharge point into the river. This box will be equipped with a deflector wall to slow down the effluent. The box will be installed around the existing pipe and, once the work is complete, the existing pipe will be cut and the deflector wall will be built. A wall valve will be installed at the outlet of the existing pipework.
Recarei Wastewater Treatment Plant
This is a design-build project in which Ambiágua presented a solution aimed at efficiently treating raw sewage for a population equivalent of 1800 inhabitants, which translates into an estimated average daily flow of 270 m3/day, through a compact system developed in shipping containers, adapted for the different treatment phases. The installation has been oversized and will therefore be prepared to treat a maximum daily flow of 400 m3/day. This compact treatment system also has a small, air-conditioned building where the aeration equipment, dry well pumps, the entire treated water reuse system and the electrical panel will be housed. The operating principle adopted for the planned WWTP is biological treatment using high-load activated sludge systems with prolonged aeration. In this context, the liquid phase treatment line will be carried out using an MBR-type biological reactor.
Reformulation of the Santa Cruz do Douro and Frende wastewater treatment plants.
Santa Cruz do Douro Wastewater Treatment Plant
The compact treatment module at Santa Cruz do Douro has exceeded its treatment capacity and, as a result, it is necessary to increase the capacity of this subsystem. The intention is therefore to replace this treatment module with the Sobreira compact treatment module, which has a higher treatment capacity (500 inhab. Eq.).
Frende Wastewater Treatment Plant
The Frende WWTP, which currently has a treatment capacity for 200 equivalent inhabitants, is close to exceeding its treatment capacity, which together with the forecast of new low-level network connections means that the installed treatment capacity needs to be increased. The treatment module from Santa Cruz do Douro will be relocated and will form a second treatment line for the Frende WWTP.
